LAPLACE — A local man added first-degree robbery and possession of Xanax charges to his rap sheet this weekend after he was arrested Saturday following a robbery report.
St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the 900 block of Michael Court in LaPlace at 2:20 p.m. Saturday after receiving a call from the victim’s mother.
“The 24-year-old male victim told deputies that Kenion Riley, 21, of Michael Court accused the victim of stealing his marijuana,” St. John Parish Sheriff Mike Tregre said in a release. “The victim said that Riley choked him until he passed out and took his money from his pocket.”
Deputies located Riley in the 200 block of Joe Parquet Circle and recovered the stolen cash from his possession, Tregre said.
“After Riley exited the unit, the deputy found and recovered 15 Xanax pills under the seat where Riley was sitting,” Tregre said.
Deputies arrested and booked Riley with first-degree robbery and possession of Xanax.
As of press time Tuesday, he remained in custody in lieu of a $33,000 bond set by Judge Madeline Jasmine
Authorities said Riley has been arrested eight times in St. John Parish since January 2012.
Sgt. Dane Clement said no information was available for release on the relationship between Riley and the victim or whether the incident was part of a larger feud.
