LAPLACE — St. John the Baptist Parish Council Chairman Michael Wright announced today (June 11) he was taking his name out of consideration in the upcoming St. John Parish President’s election.

He first announced his intention to run in early May.

“As Council Chairman, I have given much thought and consideration into the recent Attorney General Opinions and District Attorney findings regarding Parish Government,” Wright announced in a media statement. “The issues facing St. John Parish government are now more pressing than ever. My first duty to my constituents is to carry out my role as both Councilman and Council Chairman.

“In fulfilling my first obligation, under these current circumstances, I cannot run a parish wide campaign. I will not be seeking the Parish Presidency this fall to focus on my role as Council Chairman.”

Wright said he remains committed to serving the residents of St. John Parish and will seek re-election for his District 5 seat in the fall.

Wright is a health care industry manager. He has served on the St. John Council since being elected in November of 2011 and was selected by his peers to serve as Chairman in January.

Wright is a lifelong resident of LaPlace and a graduate of St. Charles Catholic High School. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Management and Small Business Entrepreneurship from Southeastern Louisiana University.

The election is Oct. 24, and qualifying begins Sept. 8
