LAPLACE – To kick off the 2015 Spring Clean Sweep, Parish Officials and the Clean Sweep Committee held a dedication renaming Highway 51 Park as the Thomas F. Daley Memorial Park.
The dedication was in memory of the former District Attorney and anti-littering and community beautification advocate, Tom Daley.
Following the dedication ceremony, over 300 volunteers including residents, community organizations, government agencies, churches, schools and businesses participated in the Annual Spring Clean Sweep event. The event is organized by St. John Parish Officials and the “Keep St. John Beautiful Committee” to promote beautification and Parish cleanliness.
All participants received garbage bags, gloves, T-shirts, masks and trash clamps upon arrival and were assigned to major thoroughfares throughout the parish for clean-up.
The Clean Sweep Committee also encouraged businesses and neighborhood groups to clean in areas where they were located. To celebrate a successful event, volunteers returned to the Park for jambalaya, drinks and music by the band “Changing Times.”
Community members are asked to mark their calendars for the Fall Clean Sweep to be held Sept. 26. For anti-littering tips and efforts, please visit the “Keep America Beautiful” website at www.kab.org.
The Parish recycle yard is open from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday – Saturday and is located at 1801 W. Airline Hwy in LaPlace.
