DESTREHAN – Westin Canal Place used a nine-run third inning to break open a close game in defeating East St. Charles Post 366/195, 14-3,Friday evening.

Westin Canal Place, consisting of players from Brother Martin High School, improved to 7-2 in American Legion play. East St. Charles fell to 3-5overall.

Westin sent 15 batters to the plate during the third inning with eight straight reaching base after two were out. There were nine hits, twowalks and two East St. Charles errors in the inning which began withWestin holding a 3-0 lead.

Mike Scaglione, Patrick Eagan and Keith Bergeron opened the inning with singles before East St. Charles starting pitcher Vince Maggiore got TrentHebert to pop up to third for the first out. Mike Durr then reached on anerror by shortstop Roberto Martinez, bringing in Scaglione to make it 4-0.

After Joey Quilio flied out, Justin Colletti lined a single up the middle to score Eagan and Bergeron. Beau Keller grounded to the mound and reachedon an error by Maggiore, Jonathan Samik-kanow brought one in with a single and C.J. Vitrano lined a pinch-hit double to right field to make thescore 9-0.

Jeremy Ledet came in to pitch for Maggiore and gave up a single to Eagan and walked pinch hitter Mike Hariton to load the bases. Another walk and asingle by Durr gave Westin a 12-0 lead.

East St. Charles came back in the bottom of the inning as Danny Kriegerled off with a single, went to second on a wild pitch by Westin starter Jason Smith, advanced to third on a single by Averien Veneralla and scored on a sacrifice fly to center by Justin St. Pierre. Westin added two runs in the fourth on a hit batsman, a walk and three singles to take a 14-1 lead. East St. Charles got those two runs back in thebottom of the inning on a single to left by Jason Pick, a walk by Krieger and a two-out, two RBI double to left by St. Pierre. Both teams put runners on in the fifth before the game was called due to the 10-run rule.

Westin had opened the scoring in the first on a home run to right by Samikkanow. Westin added two runs in the second on singles by Bergeron,Durr and Keller.
