St. James uses ground attack in district win

PLAQUEMINE – St. James started its run for a sixth-straight districtchampionship by using a solid running game to gain a 41-6 victory at Plaquemine Friday night.
St. James, ranked fourth in the state in Class 3A and coming off its firstloss of the season to Crowley, improved to 5-1 overall and 1-0 in District 10-3A. Plaquemine fell to 4-2 overall and 0-1 in district.Chad Jasmine rushed seven times for 138 yards and three touchdowns.
Brian Batiste added 86 yards on seven carries and Devon Dabney contributed 61 yards on seven attempts. The Wildcats ran the ball 41times for 347 yards.
Corey Webster added 71 yards and two touchdowns through the air on 7- of-16 passing.
Jasmine gave the Wildcats an early lead by scoring on a 1-yard run. AlvinBartholomew’s extra point gave the Wildcats a 7-0 lead in the first quarter.
That lead would be extended by the end of the quarter as Webster and Jasmine combined on a 12-yard scoring strike. The try for two failed,leaving the score 13-0.
It was Jasmine again in the second quarter, this time taking it in from 34 yards out. Webster made it 21-0 by running in on the two-point attempt. Webster then connected with Leslie Aubert on a 25-yard touchdown pass to give the Wildcats a 27 advantage at halftime.
Jasmine picked up where he left off in the third quarter, scoring on a 65- yard run. Bartholomew added the extra point to make it 34-0.Plaquemine finally got on the scoreboard as Mario Migliacio combined with Siah Johnson on a 15-yard pass. The try for two failed, leaving the score34-6.
But St. James answered as Montrell Steib scored on a 3-yard run.Bartholomew added the final point.
Terry Robinson paced the Green Devils with 66 yards rushing on 16 attempts. Migliacio added 73 yards on 6-of-16 passing. The Wildcats’ defense intercepted two passes and recovered two of three fumbles while holding the Green Devils to 184 total yards in offense.
St. James hosts cross-parish rival Lutcher Friday while Plaqueminetravels to E.D. White.
