St. James School Board Oks implementation of pay raises

LUTCHER – The St. James Parish School Board passed salary increases forits employees at its meeting Tuesday night.
The board voted to implement state increases of $800 for all teachers and one-time increases of $300 for non-certified personnel and $150 for half- time employees. In addition, the board voted to implement a pay increaseof $1,050 for all teachers and $650 for non-teachers out of revenues generated from the millage voters approved last July.
In other business, the board approved an Interagency Agreement between the St. James President’s Office/Council and the School Board to provideservices to the school system.
Board president John Schexnayder said annually the school system and the parish do things for each other such as putting JTPA workers into the schools, and the schools asking the parish to build culverts for them.
Schexnayder said this agreement would allow school superintendent Walter Landry to approve projects between the parish and school system without having to get council approval for each item.
The board also took under advisement bids for a Pupil Advisement Center on the West Bank and an agreement with the North American Family Institute to provide services to the Nostalgia Nest Girls Group Home.
The board approved a retreat this past week for teachers and staff at the Our Lady of Grace Peace Hall to discuss plans for the upcoming session.
Also approved was a revised observation and evaluation form for teachers.
