Five locals selected to All-Star football teams

BATON ROUGE – Destrehan’s Chrys Bullock, West St. John’s Joseph Grossand St. James’ Terrance Landry and Daniel Borne will have the opportunityto shine once more under the Friday night lights before heading to the next level after being selected to the Louisiana High School Coaches Association’s All-Star Football game.
The game will be held Friday at 7 p.m. in LSU’s Tiger Stadium. Bullock was an all-State, all-Metro, all-District and All-River Parishes selection in 1997, helping the Wildcats to their second consecutive district title. Bullock anchored the Destrehan line, helping the Wildcatsrush for over 3,000 yards this past season. Bullock has signed to play withTulane University this Fall.
Gross was one of the most versatile players in the River Parishes, punting, place kicking, returning kicks, and rushing for the Rams. Grosshelped the Rams to the District 9-2A title, the team’s fifth straight, and a berth in the state semifinals by rushing for over 1,400 yards in 1997. Heled the metro area in scoring in Class 2A with 22 touchdowns.
Landry was dominant on the St. James’ line, helping the Wildcats to theDistrict 10-3A title and an appearance in the state semifinals. Landrysigned with Nicholls State this past February.
Borne was also instrumental in helping the Wildcats to the semifinals, helping lead the way for Wildcat backs to rush for over 3,000 yards in 1997.
St. James will also be represented by assistant coach Don Rodrigue whowill serve as an assistant coach for the West squad.
Bullock will play for the East squad while Gross, Borne and Landry will represent the River Parishes on the West team. Each squad consists of 35players with five players on each coming from each of the football classes and the remaining 10 being selected at-large from any class.
Playing time will be four 12-minute quarters. All players must play atleast six minutes in the first half. If any player does not play six minutesin the half, then he will start the second half and continue to play until fulfilling the time requirement.
