Grillot edges Cretin Homes in extra innings

LAPLACE – Ridgewood-based Grillot scored twice in the top of the eighth inning to defeat Cretin Homes, 10-8, in Second District East play at St.

Charles Catholic Saturday afternoon.

Grillot improved to 4-1 overall and 4-1 in district play while Cretin Homes fell to 4-2 overall and 4-1 in district.

After Jason Waguespack pitched out of a jam in the top of the first, Brian Horvath led off the bottom half of the inning with a double down the third baseline and moved to third on a passed ball. One out later, Matt Fissedrove a shot through the box for a single to score Horvath.

Jason Gonzales followed with a single through the left side and Ricky Madere walked to load the bases. Toby Jacob was then hit by a pitch,plating Gonzales from third.

Jon Hymel followed with a bunt, scoring Madere to make it 3-0. Grillotstarter Brent Rowell struck out the next two batters to get out of the inning.

Grillot came back with five runs in the top of the second. Rowell reachedon an error, stole second, went to third on a ground out and scored on a fly ball to center by Scott Schenck. David Peterson followed with a walk andafter stealing second, scored as Jeb Bauer doubled to the gap in left- center.

Bryson LeBlanc then stepped in and drilled a 3-2 pitch over the fence in right field, giving Grillot a 4-3 lead. Brennan Bourgeois followed with ashot over the right field fence, making it 5-3.

Cretin Homes loaded the bases in the bottom of the third as Gonzales and Madere walked and Jacob was hit by a pitch. Hymel then grounded toBourgeois at short who threw home to get Gonzales, but Madere came in to score on an errant throw by catcher Justin Jones, cutting the deficit to 5- 4.

Cretin Homes regained the lead in the bottom of the fourth. Waguespackwalked and eventually came in to tie the score on a single to left by Gonzales.

After Madere walked, Randy Madere singled to score Gonzales. Nick Monicafollowed with a single to left field, plating two runs to increase the lead to 8-5.

Bryon Sentilles doubled and Schenck walked in the top of the sixth.

Peterson then singled to left field to score Sentilles. With one out,LeBlanc walked to load the bases. After Schenck was forced at home on agrounder by Bourgeois, Lane Dugas singled up the middle, scoring Peterson and LeBlanc to tie the game at 8.

Cretin Homes threatened to win the game in the bottom of the seventh against reliever Jody Vidrine. With one out, Waguespack walked and Fissedoubled down the third baseline.

Gonzales was then walked intentionally to load the bases. Ricky Maderethen hit a fly ball to right with Schenck throwing out Waguespack at the plate to end the inning.

Grillot took the lead in the top of the eighth a LeBlanc beat out a bunt and scored on an error. Bourgeois followed with a double and scored on asacrifice fly by Dugas.
