As Mother’s Day approaches, I think we all find ourselves reflecting on another year with the special mothers in our lives. Come to think of it, I don’t evenknow if moms are human. Whether they’re cooking, cleaning, doing laundry orchauffeuring kids around town, they’re always on the go. And of course, they’re100 percent committed to their kids.
Here’s an example of a mother’s commitment. This past weekend was my 16thbirthday. My mom canceled numerous plans to take me and some friends to goand eat at Joe’s Crabshack. She gave up time with her own friends to make mybirthday perfect.
Not only is my mom awesome, but all three of my grandmothers are also. Someof you may know my Mi-Mi. I have probably been to the mall with her more thaneveryone else combined. She not only brings me and my cousins to the mall; shealso brings us to ballgames, to go eat out end just about everywhere in- between.
My other grandmother, Maw-Maw Michel, doesn’t drive, but boy does she cook.
Any given day looks like Thanksgiving at her house. Every Wednesday afterschool we go to pick up my sister at her house and she always has something special for us. Ever since I can remember, she and my paw-paw have faithfullybrought us food from Taco Bell on Saturday night. For example, one of my littlesisters was born on a Saturday. I can remember my little brother and I sittingin the waiting room eating Taco Bell. Now if that isn’t commitment, I don’tknow what is.
The last woman I would like to honor is my great grandmother. All of hergrandkids call her Maw-Maw Jell-O. That’s because she always used to haveJell-O in the refrigerator for us when we visited. Even though Maw-Maw isgetting up in age, she can still crack a joke like it’s nobody’s business and she is a fierce card player.
I would like to thank these women and all the other mothers out there for being great examples of loyalty, honor and unconditional love. Being a mother truly isthe hardest job on earth, and I applaud all of you for doing a stellar job.
