LULING – Fallon Cancienne pitched a one-hitter to propel Hahnville past Ruston, 6-1, in the Class 5A bi-district playoffs Monday afternoon at the West Bank Bridge Park.

Hahnville (18-7) will host West Ouachita, a 23-0 winner over Warren Easton, in the regional playoffs tomorrow at 3:30 p.m. at the West BankBridge Park. Ruston completed its season at 16-14-1.Cancienne and Ruston starter Jayme Jacks held the game scoreless until the bottom of the second. With one out, Cancienne stepped in and drilled ahard liner just inside the bag at third for the first hit of the game. JackieWitmer followed with a single and Lindsay Yochim reached as courtesy runner Ashley Laque slid in safely to third on the bunt attempt.

Erin Wheeler reached on a fielder’s choice, scoring Laque with the first run. One out later, Kellie Landeche was hit by a pitch, bringing in Witmerfrom third. Melanie Delaune then stepped in and with a 2 and 2 count,Jacks’ pitch got past catcher Michelle Stafford as Yochim scored.

Ruston got a run back in the third as Emily Franklin reached on an error and came in to score on Jacks’ grounder to short.

Hahnville came right back in the bottom of the inning as Cancienne reached on an error with two outs. Laque, running for Cancienne, stole second andcame in as Witmer tripled to the wall in right field, making it 4-1.

Hahnville added another run in the fourth inning as Erin Crisham drove a liner to left field. Left fielder Danielle Moss dove for the ball but missedas Crisham raced around the bases for an inside-the-park home run, giving the Lady Tigers a 5-1 lead.

Jennifer Matthews led off the sixth for the Lady Tigers by reaching on an error. Cancienne sacrificed her over and reached as Jacks’ throw to secondwent into center field. Dixi Dufrene then reached on an errant throw on hergrounder to third to load the bases.

Two outs later, Crisham bounced a ball to third to Jessica Story. Story’sthrow to first pulled Kate Floyd off the bag, allowing Matthews to come in to make it 6-1.

Cancienne took her no-hitter into the sixth inning. With two outs, Storyripped the first pitch into the gap in right-center for a double, the Bearcats only hit of the day. Story would be stranded at second.Cancienne would hold the Bearcats to a walk in the seventh, picking up the win to go to 10-4 on the season.
