Board recognizes students, employees

HAHNVILLE – Two award ceremonies were held during last week’s St.
Charles Parish School Board meeting, as students and employees were recognized for their service to the school system and recent accomplishments.
Recognized for 20 years of service in the school system were Helen Banquer, Judith Borne, Rita Carlson, Barbara Clement-Wilson, Lucille Ducre, Clara Dufrene, Beverly Duke, Emily Emery, Sharon Gaubert, Charles Griffin, Lezanne Grimaldi, James Hebert, Melanie Hebert, Doris Hill, Joyce Jefferson and Betty Langley.
Also, Carylle Lawson, Meredith Liggio, Suzanne Loupe, Mynyon McMillian, Jacqueline Madere, Patricia Picard, Jean Pollet, Gloria Polly, Raymond Poplus, Catherine Riggin, Elizabeth Riggs, Geraldine Robinson, David Rosenthal, Candice Roussel, Henry Shepard, Belle Simon, Vivian Talley, John Taube, Juanita Tellock, Keith Theriot, Gerlie Weinstein and Shirley Young.
Recognized for 25 years of service were Barbara Braud, Betty Bourgeois, Darwynn Bumgarner, Shirl Cook, Gail Creecy, Patricia Evans, Barbara Fuselier, Juanita Haydel, Reversia Johnson, Beulah Markey, Angela Matherne, Prosper Vicknair and Carolyn Wheeler.
Recognized for 30 years of service were Cecelia Babin, Lee Barnes, Sherry Heurtin, Merlin Jackson, Evelyn Jefferson, Madeline Pharr, Larry Sessor, Kennith Tate, James Taylor, Brenda Tregle, Carolyn Woods and Phyliss Woods.
Recognized for more than 30 years of service was Arthur Dee Parquet.
The board approved a resolution honoring the memory of Edwin Johnson, who served as a teacher and principal in the St. Charles Parish SchoolSystem for 35 years.
Upon Johnson’s recent passing, the board reserved a page in the minute book for the inscription of the resolution, and a copy will be mailed to Johnson’s family.
Students and employees were also recognized Wednesday for various literary, academic and professional accomplishments.
Selected for publication in the Inkdancer Review, Pathfinder Publishing, were: – Cammon Middle School: Huey P. Antill, Kelly Balsar, Lindsey Harrison,Samantha Lane, Keion Marbley, Maria Mejia, Darryl Richard, Dimonique Robinson and Dana Tumblin. Balsar was also selected p LULING ublicationof a poem in Anthology of Poetry by Young Americans. Richard was alsorecognized as the second place winner at the District III Beta Quiz Bowl competition.
– Destrehan High School: Brandi Cheek, Jeremy Deibel, Jennifer Doty, Matthew G. Erskin, Jeremiah Jeansonne, Christie Mills, Kiley Sanders,Corey Taylor and Chad Worth.
Selected for publication in The 21st Century were, from Destrehan High School, Barrett Deris, Taylor Eilors, Rachel Harris, Jacobs Jordon, Jordon Lambert and Michael Lowry.
Selected for publication in Creative With Words were, from Destrehan High School, K.J. Haydel Jr., Heather Hernandez, Emily Meaden, JoeyRochelle and Nadia Taylor. Rochelle was also recipient of the Bronze ClubAward at the University of Southwest Louisiana’s Cajun Quiz Bowl Fall Tournament.
Selected for publication by McGregor Publishing were, from Destrehan High School, Amber Beber and Christina Mislan.
Selected as a finalist for the Cox Cable Black History Art Contest were Tranise Hamilton of Schoeffner Elementary School, Joseph Johnson of Destrehan High School and Christopher Scott Jr. of Hahnville High School.Carl Raymond of Hahnville High was the first-place winner in the Martin Luther King Commemorative Program, and Brandy Smith of Schoeffner Elementary was selected as the St. Charles Parish Martin Luther KingEssay Contest first-place winner.
Sean McCloskey of Destrehan High was selected for publication in the Byline Student Writing Contest, and Ranika Sanchez of Cammon Middle was selected as second alternate for District III Jr. Beta Creative Writing.Jodi Friedman of Destrehan High was selected as a finalist for the student adviser position for the Louisiana Board of Elementary and Secondary Education.
Randi Friedman of Destrehan High qualified for the National Tournament of Champions at the University of Kentucky through her work with the speech and debate team.
Lynn Matherne of Cammon Middle was selected to represent Louisiana as an All-Star pitcher at the Hall of Fame Game in Cooperstown, N.Y.Six Hahnville High School teachers presented at the National High School Association meeting in Nashville. They were Angela Gaudet, Dahl Gomez,Lorel Gonzales, Wanda Melancon, Mary Rush and Lloyd Sensat.
Deborah Haydel of Schoeffner Elementary was selected as the parish’s elementary school representative to attend the National Science Teachers Association Conference, and Jamie Treuting of Schoeffner is presenting at the Fifth International Conference for Intelligences.
Gwen Hitt of J. B. Martin Middle School was recipient of the Help OneStudent To Succeed Betty Scharff Memorial Award. This award is thehighest individual honor given by the HOSTS Corp. to those who go theextra mile to help children succeed. Hitt is the only math teacher in thecountry to receive this honor.
J.B. Martin Middle School and Principal Diane Rochelle recieved the HOSTSQuality Assurance Award for achieving exemplary status.
Paulette Whiteman of Schoeffner Elementary was recipient of a fellowship grant from the Louisiana Division of the Arts.
A reception with cake and punch was held prior to the ceremony for all students and teachers recognized.
