Duronslet leads Rams to second at Invitational

EDGARD – Dehaven Duronslet placed first in the long jump and triple jump to lead West St. John to a second-place finish at the West St. JohnInvitational Thursday afternoon.
The Rams finished the season-opening meet with 73 points. John Curtiscaptured the team title with 132 points. Riverside was third with 65,followed by McMain, Ridgewood and Fisher.
McMain took the girls’ competition with 128 points. Riverside was secondwith 69 points, followed by Ridge-wood with 68 and West St. John with48.
Duronslet took the long jump competition with a jump of 20 feet, 7 1/2 inches. Joel Levin was second with a leap of 19-3. West St. John’s RandyHilaire placed fifth and Riverside’s Richie Hymel was sixth in the event.
Duronslet also defeated Levin in the triple jump with a leap of 39-9 3/4.
Levin had a jump of 37-4 1/4. Riverside’s Jeff Roccaforte was sixth in theevent.
West St. John’s Donavon Pierre captured the high jump title, clearing thebar at 6-0. Ridgewood’s James McNorry also jumped 6-0 but Pierre did itin fewer (See MEET, Page 4C) attempts. Riverside’s Craig Tearney was fourth with a jump of 5-6.Riverside’s Rhett Vicknair won the discus with a throw of 140-1 1/2.
West St. John’s Anthony Antonio placed fourth with a throw of 109-10.Vicknair also placed third in the javelin with a throw of 142-6. The Rams’Terman Howard was third with a throw of 137-9. Ridgewood’s JasonLisotta’s throw of 147-3 won the event.
Riverside’s Ranney Wilson’s throw of 42-4 placed second in the shot put.
Teammate Mike Mohan had a throw of 41-7 1/2 to place third. Riversidealso got a second-place finish in the pole vault as Justin Dunn cleared the bar at 11-6. Fisher’s John Korosi won the event with a vault of 11-6 infewer attempts.
In the track events, the Rams’ Arlando Comminie took the high hurdles competition with a time of 16.20 seconds. Riverside’s Richie Hymel wassecond in 17.34. West St. John’s Abrom Johnson edged out Curtis’ MikeGangi for the 200-meter title with a time of 23.47. Teammate JessieJackson won the 400 meters in a time of 52.56. Riverside’s Armand Cent-anni captured the 1600-meter run with a time of five minutes, 5.28 seconds. Teammate Michael Sparrella was second in the800 meters in 2:20.18. The Rebels’ Travis Fox ran the 3200 meters in12:28.
McMain’s Shelton Barnes was slected as the meet’s track MVP.
In the relays, Curtis edged out West St. John, 44.50-44.75 in the 400.Curtis also defeated the Rams in the 800 and the 1600. Riverside placedfourth in both the 400 and the 1600.
In the girls’ competition, West St. John’s Oneka Lewis won the shot putwith a throw of 30-6. Riverside’s Holly Ocmond was second with a toss of27-2, and the Rams’ Ireon Bethancourt was third with a throw of 25-2.
Bethancourt also placed second in the discus with a throw of 69-2 1/2.
Riverside’s Nicole Lambert had a throw of 92-2 to win the javelin.
Teammate Heidi Richard placed fourth with a throw of 75-0. The Rebels’Rachel Branton captured the high jump title by clearing the bar at 4-8.
West St. John’s Niesha Green was second in the long jump with a jump of14-5. Riverside’s Ashley Jolly placed third with a jump of 13-10.McMain’s Lauren Garrett, the meet’s field MVP, won the event with a jump of 14-9. Green also placed third in the triple jump with a jump of 30-8.Ridgewood’s Aisha Otori jumped 34-8 to place first.
In the track events, Riverside’s Jenny Klibert captured the 3200 meters with a time of 17:08.3.West St. John’s Rita Baker placed fourth in the 100-meter dash with atime of 14.21. Riverside’s Lori Smith was fifth in 14.41. McMain’s TiffanyVincent won the event in 13.03. Riverside’s Jamie Scurlock was third in the hurdles with a time of 20.75and also in the 800 meters with a time of 3:01.39. McMain’s MichelleBlount won the latter event as well as the 1600 meters in being named the track MVP. Riverside’s Lindsay Lasseigne was fourth in the 1600. West St. John’s Crystal Stipe ran the 400 meters in 1:00.99 to place third.Riverside’s Michelle Millet crossed the line at 1:03.36 to place fourth.McMain’s Xyllenda Lynch won the event in 59 seconds.
In the relays, West St. John placed third in the 800 with a time of 1:56.83and in the 1600 in a time of 3:55.12. Riverside placed fourth in the bothevents.
The Rams were second in the 400 in a time of 54.88 with the Rebelscrossing the line in 57.63 to place third. McMain captured all three events.
