Zeringue up for Outstanding Junior DAR award

The Vieux Carre Chapter of the Louisiana Society Daughters of the American Revolution has recently nominated Michelle Zeringue of Destrehan as Outstanding Junior.

The Daughters of the American Revolution Junior Membership Committee was established in 1937. Its goals are to gain new junior members, tohave a well informed junior membership and to encourage active participation by these young women in the community.

Zeringue has been active in the View Carre Chapter for the past two years.

She has volunteered her time and services to her school and community.

At Louisiana State University, Zeringue has served for three years as an ambassador for the university. She is also a member of the Delta GammaSorority where she has served as public relations director. In addition, shehas worked very diligently for its philanthropy, The National Federation For The Blind. She is a certified teacher in the Louisiana Literacy Programand has begun teaching adult reading at Christ The King Church on the LSU campus. Zeringue has frequently served as a lector for the liturgy.This semester, Zeringue is finishing her undergraduate studies at LSU in journalism with minors in history and agriculture. She is participating inan internship with Dr. Linda Benedict, editor of “Louisiana Agriculture.”During the recent school year, Zeringue has received the Johns Scholarship in mass communications administered through the LSU Agriculture Center’s experiment station.

Since Zeringue has been named Outstanding Junior for the Louisiana Society Daughters of the American Revolution Vieux Carre Chapter, she has the opportunity to compete on the state and national level for this honor. Also, she may participate as a page at the spring conference to beheld at the Holiday Inn-Holidome in Lafayette on March 18-20.

In the River Parishes there are four senior members of the Louisiana Society Daughters of the American Revolution Vieux Carre Chapter: Jean Marie Cambre, Carolyn Alleman, Merrill Zeringue and Darlene McDonald.
