Ward hits paydirt five times to lead Wildcats

TERREBONNE – Dechad Ward entered his name to the list of great rushing accomplishments by Destrehan running backs Friday night, rushing for five touchdowns in the Wildcats’ 48-12 victory at South Terrebonne.

Destrehan won its fourth straight District 7-5A game and improved to 6-1 overall. South Terrebonne fell to 2-5 overall and 0-3 in district.Ward finished with 166 yards on 18 carries. Ivan Mashia completed 12 ofhis 17 passes for 176 yards and one touchdown. Richard Jones caught fourpasses for 100 yards and a score. The Wildcats finished with 389 yards intotal offense.

South Terrebonne was led by Craig Duplantis with 11 carries for 60 yards.

Joseph Cooper carried 18 times for 44 yards and two touchdowns.

Jonathan Aucoin completed 1-of-2 passes for 1 yard. The Gators finishedwith 77 yards in offense, 76 on the ground, and committed five turnovers.

Mashia opened the scoring with a 1-yard run. Jonathan Scifres added theextra point to make it 7-0 with 8:40 left in the first quarter.

Cooper cut the deficit to 7-6 with a 5-yard run with 4:44 left in the quarter. Cooper then gave the Gators a 12-7 lead with a 6-yard run at the10:38 mark of the second quarter.

Ward then took over, scoring on a 3-yard run with 7:47 left in the half to make it 13-12. Ward then scored from 11 yards out with Scifres addingthe extra point, increasing the lead to 20-12 at the 3:39 mark. Ward wasnot done yet in the quarter, scoring on a 35-yard run with 1:57 left.

Scifres added the extra point to make it 27-12 at the half.

Ward opened the scoring in the third quarter with a 3-yard run. Scifres’point after increased the margin to 34-12 with 7:46 left in the third.

Mashia found Jones from 11 yards out and Scifres added the point after to make it 41-12 at the 2:42 mark of the quarter.

Ward then closed out the scoring with a 11-yard run with 34 seconds left in the third with Scifres making the extra point.
