Burl leads Wildcats’ romp at Thibodaux

THIBODAUX – Any ideas that East St. John might suffer a letdown after itsfive-overtime loss to Destrehan last week were quickly answered Friday night as the Wildcats rolled to a 44-14 victory at Thibodaux.
East St. John improved to 3-3 on the season and 2-1 in district whileThibodaux fell to 1-5 and 0-2.
Chuckie Burl led the way for East St. John, carrying 23 times for 201yards and two touchdowns. Burl scored on runs of 5 and 10 yards and alsohad a 52-yard run. The Wildcats finished with 233 yards rushing on 36attempts.
Floyd Smith completed 5-of-11 passes for 106 yards and two touchdowns.
Smith’s touchdowns came on a 14-yard pass to Chris Bush and 37 yards to Randy Sutherland. The Wildcats took a 34-0 lead into the lockerroom athalftime.
The East St. John defense also got into the act. Brandon Mason returned aninterception 45 yards for a touchdown and Mervin Williams brought back one 15 yards for another score. The defense forced three fumbles andintercepted four passes. Thibodaux did not get onto the scoreboard untilthe fourth quarter.
East St. John hosts Neville in non-district action next Friday.
