WSJ bounces back in big way at Buras

BURAS – West St. John bounced back from its first loss of the season in abig way, defeating Buras, 55-6, in District 9-2A play Friday night at Fort Jackson.
The Rams, who had lost to Newman, 24-6, last Friday, improved to 5-1 on the season and 2-1 in district play. Buras fell to 1-5 and 0-2.Devin Herbert got the Rams on the scoreboard in the first quarter on a 1- yard run. Jeremy Lumar followed with a 37-yard reception from CarlGauthier, making it 14-0 at the end of the first quarter.
Lumar would score his second touchdown of the night on a 5-yard pass from Gauthier. Amone Lumar then ran in for the 2-point conversion,building the lead to 23-0.
Amone Lumar would take it in on a 10-yard run and Gauthier connected with Brian Lumar to make it 31-0. Brian Lumar would cap the scoring inthe first half on a 26-yard pass from Gauthier. Gauthier ran in for thetwo-pointer, making it 39-0 at halftime.
Norman Strickland went 22 yards for a score in the third quarter and added the two-point conversion to make it 47-0. Davin Farnell capped thescoring for West St. John with a 1-yard run. Strickland ran in for the two,building the lead to 55-0 in the third. Buras would finally get on thescoreboard in the quarter on a 1-yard run by Travis Riley.
Gauthier completed 8-of-11 passes for 116 yards and three touchdowns.
Jeremy Lumar had three catches for 77 yards and two scores while Brian Lumar had three for 43 yards.
Strickland carried 8 times for 62 yards while Amone Lumar added three carries for 51.
The Rams had 309 yards in offense while holding Buras to 170. Buras alsocommitted two turnovers.
West St. John travels to cross-parish rival Riverside in District 9-2A playnext Friday.
