United Way fund-raising campaigns are under way in the River Parishes, which ought to prompt everyone to dig a little deeper and help the drives surpass even their expectations.
Helping United Way in their assistance of a myriad of community service programs and agencies is another way for neighbors to help neighbors, long a tradition in this region.
Programs take aim at problems ranging from juvenile delinquency to adult literacy to the needs of the chronically ill and disabled. It cannot beimagined that United Way could not help someone at least one time during their lifetime, whether it be through support of the American Red Cross or Scouting. The United Way is a painless way to provide ever-vital fundingto keep so many of these programs going and enabling them to continue outreach to more people.
Supporting United Way ought to be a point of pride. Indeed, few United Wayprograms nationally can match the record exhibited by local programs in the degree where public support comes through.
It’s easy to help United Way, through employee contributions at work to participating in special events such as the benefit golf tournaments.
Sooner or later, United Way will help virtually everyone here.
We should return the favor and enable them to keep it up.
