RESERVE – Prior to the season, senior Casey Remondet figured to be Riverside’s go-to back.

After all, all Remondet did in 1998 was earn all-state honors after rushing for 1,788 yards and 26 touchdowns.

But few could imagine what he would accomplish as the season got underway. Through the first two games, Remondet has carried the ball 40times for 393 yards and scored seven touchdowns, helping the Rebels get off to a 2-0 start. He opened the season with a 134-yard, three-touchdownperformance in a 46-7 win over rival St. Charles Catholic and topped thatwith 259 yards and four touchdowns in the Rebels’ 44-0 victory over Landry Friday.

Remondet is not the only Rebel that has been impressive through the first two games. The defense has allowed a combined 210 yards through thefirst two games and has forced nine turnovers. The Comets and Buccaneershave combined to rush for 83 yards. The only score against the Rebels inthe two games came against St. Charles Catholic when Comet linebackerJohn Mitchell returned an interception to the 3-yard line and Todd Babin punched it in from the 1.

Riverside will look to continue that dominance defensively against a Vandebilt team that struggled offensively in a 35-8 loss to Lutcher Friday. The Terriers gained 151 yards in offense and quarterback JohnGordon was sacked 11 times. The Terriers finished with 42 yards rushing.Vandebilt also struggled in its first game, a 24-6 loss to E.D. White. TheTerriers were held to 42 total yards, losing 32 running the ball.

Gordon, a sophomore, leads the offense which runs the run-and-shoot out of shotgun formation. Gordon’s favorite targets are John Helm, who caughta 55-yard scoring pass Friday, and Drew Himel. The backs are ChrisChiasson and Tim Jones.

On defense, the Terriers are led by Helm and Craig Rizzo in the backfield and Digger Porche, Glen Breerwood and Christian Coulon on the front line.

Riverside hosts Buras next week in the District 9-2A opener for both teams.
