Keller: Elections in St. John promise to be exciting

Over the past months, a few people have told me that this being an election year, there isn’t much action in the political arena.
Many have shared that this year politics won’t be as exciting in St. John as in past years.
After seeing a recent professional poll on how people feel about the Parish President’s race, I disagree.
The poll was only about the Parish President’s upcoming election.
The names on the poll were Natalie Robottom, Nickie Monica, Kent St. Amant, Charles Julien and Michael Wright. With only those names, the poll shows that it will be an interesting race.
With the announcement Saturday by Democratic DeLisa R. Brown, also a candidate for the same position, fasten your seat belts. It could be an interesting and exciting ride.
I have privileged information that a poll on the Sheriff’s race will be taken shortly. I’m anxious to see those results to find out if what I hear on the streets is how the majority of the people feel.
As of this date, David Lozano is seriously considering a run. In January, I predicted that at least two or three others will announce shortly and challenge the incumbent.
I believe this will happen.
These races, together with the Assessor, Clerk of Court, all Council members, and legislative seats will be on the line.
It should be interesting.
I believe it’s our duty to be involved in the Democratic process of electing our public officials.
I encourage everyone who has been involved over the years not to get discouraged.
I challenge those who have sat on the sidelines and complained after the fact, to get active. It’s the American way!
