LAPLACE – Allan Doubleday scored four goals as St. Charles Catholicopened District 8-III play with a 5-0 victory Wednesday night at Thomas Dupuy Stadium.

St. Charles Catholic improved to 7-2 overall on the season. Ridgewood,which had its three-game winning streak snapped, fell to 4-3.

Ridgewood got the first scoring opportunity of the game at the six-minute mark as Brandon Anderson’s shot from the right side was deflected away by Phillip Hoffman. The Comets regained possession with Jon Boucvalttaking the ball down the left side and centering a pass to Doubleday.

Doubleday moved into the box, angling his shot into the left side of the net for a 1-0 lead at the eight-minute mark.

Doubleday received a pass ahead of the defense at the 12-minute mark and had his shot from the right side deflected by Ridgewood goalie Jay Farmer.

Doubleday took the deflection in the right corner and angled it in with Farmer making the grab this time.

Doubleday made it 2-0 at the 23-minute mark as his penalty kick sailed over Farmer into the left upper corner of the net.

Six minutes later, Boucvalt moved down the right sidelines and took a shot that was deflected by Farmer. Boucvalt hustled after the rebound in theright corner of the box, angling a shot past Farmer into the left side of the net for a 3-0 lead. Doubleday got the hat trick a minute later, charging upfront and finding the left corner of the net to increase the lead to 4-0.

Ridgewood had a shot to chip into the lead at the 33-minute mark as Brandon Wertz chased down a long pass over the middle but had his shot from 20 yards out sail just over the top crossbar. The Comets then wenton the attack with Bret Deroche finding Doubleday over the middle.

Doubleday passed back to Boucvalt whose shot was stopped by a diving Farmer on the left side of the net.

St. Charles Catholic extended its lead to 5-0 early in the second half.Boucvalt took the ball down the right sidelines, juked out a defender, got around Farmer and centered a pass to Doubleday for a tap in at the four- minute mark.

The Comet defense then took over with Kurt Biven splitting two Ridgewood attackers to knock away one threat. Matt Parker thenattempted a shot from the right side that was deflected away by Comet goalie David LeBlanc. Five minutes later, Wertz’s shot from the left sidegot by a charging LeBlanc but went through the crease with Biven knocking it out.

The Ridgewood defense kept the game at 5-0 as Stefan Villafana’s shot from the middle after a pass from Hoffman was deflected over the net.

The Eagles regained possession with Parker’s free kick from the right side knocked away by Biven. Parker then took a centering pass from AmieeWood but had his shot sail high. A corner kick by Parker was grabbed byLeBlanc, keeping the score at 5-0 at the midway mark of the half.

Ridgewood had one last threat at the 30-minute mark with Parker’s shot from near midfield grabbed by LeBlanc. Parker got another shot front infront of the net but had it deflected away by Biven.

“The main thing we wanted to do was improve going into district,” St.

Charles Catholic coach Mickey Simon said. “I thought we did a good jobtonight on fundamentals and that’s what helped us out.”Top defenders for the Comets were Daniel Carbo and Mihran Naljayan.

St. Charles Catholic continues district play today at 1 p.m. at E.D. Whitebefore returning home Wednesday to host Ecole Classique at 6 p.m.
