The year could not have had a better start for some people, including several who are related to me. For instance, on the very first day of theyear several brides to be of the year 2000 were toasted at an engagement party. Sunny Stein of Garyville and Dana Lambert of Sorrento, daughters ofMaria and Wayne and Debbie and David, respectively, were the honorees.

The party took place at the home of the Lamberts with almost all members of the prospective bridal parties in attendance. The Steins and Lambertswere co-hosts for the event, the night was calm and clear, the decorations were lovely, the food was plentiful and the future brides and grooms were very pleased. Sunny marries Macky Waguespack in December, and Danamarries Brad Franz of Gonzales in November.

Right now, the girls are roommates in Baton Rouge and will be in each other’s weddings. They are ready for a busy year.As lovely as the future brides are, though, just about stealing the show were two future flower girls for Sunny’s wedding, 2-year-old Jordan and 1-year-old Harli Jacob, blonde, curly-haired daughters of Joey and Kari Jacob of Paulina.

Starting the New Year off in fine fashion, too, was Armant Falgoust, who decided to “get back” at wife Donna with a surprise birthday party for her 40th. Just as she had done for him a couple of years ago, Armant pulled offa big surprise and Donna was in disbelief for a while. Besides havingfriends, relatives and associates there from LaPlace, Reserve, Garyville and elsewhere, guests included Donna’s parents from Lockport and relatives from Texas as well as the Falgoust offspring, Sommer, Dexter, Jade and Payton.

Armant’s mom, Frances, entertained the party with a song, and others took turns in showing off their expertise in the way of entertainment. DebbiePoche and Dawn Dottolo, Armant’s sisters, dressed as little gray haired ladies, led the field. The music and dancing went on for quite a while withDonna not giving a second thought or concern to having turned 40.

Armant chose the location for the party, and for us members of the family it was very nostalgic. Once known as “The Shoppe” when the Navarrabrothers ran it as a store many years ago, the building in Garyville much later became known as the “pool hall” but never really ever lost its distinction as “The Shoppe.” It was a favorite facility in a favoritelocation and holds memories for many.

In the 50s and 60s it was a popular family hangout and was synonymous with names like Benny Cashio, Marcel Falgoust, Richard Ory, Paul Trosclair, Kin Guidry, Sidney Simon, Pete Falgoust and so many others, many who shared common interests as war veterans.

Celebrations for what has passed, what is now and what is to come. It’sall good!
