ESJ seniors earn $1.4 million in scholarship offers

RESERVE – Principal Debra Schum was proud to announce that East St. JohnHigh School’s graduating seniors for the Class of 2000 collectively received $1.4 million dollars in scholarships.Forty students received TOPS scholarships.

Students who received TOPS Honor scholarships will get tuition paid plus an extra $800. These students scored a 27 on the ACT and had a grade pointaverage of 3.5 or higher. They are Charlotte Aceituno, Joshua Greene,Rebecca Hill, Katherine Gail Madere and Cheri Tompkins.

Students awarded the TOPS Performance scholarships will receive tuition plus $400. These students scored 23 on on the ACT and attained a gradepoint averagge of 3.5 or better. They are William Brignac, Chesere Cancienneand Anna Marie Shankster.

Other TOPS scholarship receipients are Catherine Borne, Theresa Cambre, Ashley Castillo, William Chernota, Rachel Coenen, Andrew Eldridge, Joshua Entremont, Ashley Fox, Jason Graffeo, Shara Gremillion, Shanedolyn Grover, Jorge Harris, Charlotte Hibbard, Timothy Hollins, Annabelle Jacob, Bruce Mayeaux, Lawrence McKnight, Sharonda Mitchell, James Oubre, Ernest Ricks, Sherri Schexnayder, Heidi E. Schum, Robin Smith, Justin Stein, YoshikoTaylor, Garland Theriot, Jennifer Vicknair, Stacy Wallace, Randy Williams and Curtis Young.

Students who received the Marine Educational benefits of $19,008 plus 75 percent tuition assistance and 9.5 hours of college credits are Victor Curley,Travis Joshepj, Joshua Jones, Earl Peabody and Charles Rayfield.

Those students who received the Army Educational benefits of $19,500 are Corey Bryant, Latanya Jackson, Toccara James, Brian Matthews, Bruce Mayeaux, Jarrod Nabor, Troylicia Robertson, Alisha Snyder and Kevin Taylor.

East St. John High School graduates who received other recognition and/orschoarship offers are: William Brignac – Academic Acheivement Scholarship to Louisiana Tech University, $4,000 William Chernota – Loyola University Merit Scholarship, $34,000.

Nelson Cornelius – First District Missionary Baptist Association, Dr. SeabedBridges Sr. President scholarship, $1,000 Joshua Entrmont – Louisiana Tech University Academic Achievement Scholarship, $4,000 Cherell Favorite – Southeast College of Technology, $2,000 Joshua Greene – University of New Orleans Chancellor’s Scholarship, $24,648, Tulane University Academic Scholarship, $40,000, and Valedictorian Scholarship, $20,000 Katherine Madere – LSU Centennial Award Chancellor’s Student Aides, $22,200 James Oubre – University of New Orleans Merit Scholarship, $2,000 Kavonna Reese – Holmes Community College in Goodman, Miss., basketballscholarship, $18,000 Ernest Ricks Jr. – Grambling State University, $20,352, and Army ReserveNational Scholar Athlete.

Heidi Schum – Matt Ory Educational Scholarship, $1,000, and Army Reserve National Scholar Athlete Robin Smith – AMDA University of New York, $4,000 Yoshiko Taylor – University of Louisiana at Lafayette Grant-in-Aid Woman’s Track Award, $1,786 a year, and the Marathon-Ashland Scholarship, $3,000 Roydell Williams – Tulane University football scholarship, $74,000; LSU football scholarship, $28,555; Florida State University football scholarship, $56,402; Texas A&M University football scholarship, $58,042, and University of Arkansas football scholarship, $49,213.
