RCS celebrates past season at banquet

RESERVE – Reserve Christian celebrated its second season in the Louisiana High School Athletic Association at its annual Sports Banquet May 5 in the school gym.
Four of the school’s sports – volleyball, softball, boys’ basketball and baseball – made the postseason during the 1999-2000 school year.
The girls’ volleyball team, under coach Mike Marix, won its first playoff game and defeated its first Class 5A opponent during the 1999 season. The LadyEagles advanced to the Class B regionals for the first time.
Amber Schlesinger was named the team’s best offensive player while Summer Vicknair received the award for defense. Vicknair also received theCoach’s Award while Sarah davis was selected as most improved.
For the junior varsity squad, Natalie Simon was named the best offensive player and Dunia Medina its best defensive player. Most improved wasStephanie Wilking while Brittany Dufrene received the Coach’s Award.
For girls’ basketball, Joanna Ortiz was selected as both the best defensive player and most improved player by coach Ronnie Byrd. Amber Schlesingerwas named the best offensive player while Mary Venus was the recipient of the Coach’s Award.
The boys’ basketball team won the district title and advanced to the Class B semifinals for the second straight season under coach Timmy Byrd. AaronVogel was named the Eagles’ best offensive player while Addison Ellis was its best defensive player. Eric McClain received the Coach’s Award while EdmondWeathersby was the recipient of the Leadership Award. Larry Smith wasselected as the most improved player.
For the junior varsity squad, Matt Jackson was named the best offensive player while Justin Aguillard was the best player on defense. Nathan Louquewas selected as most improved with Chris McClain receiving the Coach’s Award.
For the cheerleading squad under coach Mary Ellen Tucker, Angie Tucker was named the Most Valuable Cheerleader. Tiffany Pousson was selected as mostimproved while Amber Keller received the Coach’s Award.
The girls’ varsity softball team under coach Marix advanced to the LHSAA state playoffs for the first time in school history. Renee Delaneuville wasselected as the best offensive player while Summer Vicknair was the best defensive player. Stephanie Wilking was selected as the most improvedplayer while Amber Keller received the Coach’s Award.
The boys’ varsity baseball team, under coach Timmy Byrd, also advanced to the playoffs for the first time. The Eagles won the district title andadvanced to the Class B regionals.
Nathan Louque was named the team’s best offensive player with Seth Guidry the best defensive player. Neal Johnson was the most improved player. PaulLabiche received the Coach’s Award with Jason Coons receiving the Leadership Award.
For the junior varsity squad, Matt Jackson was selected as the best offensive player with Joshua Labiche being named the best defensive player.
Kyle Tucker was the most improved player while Kevin Phipps received the Coach’s Award.
