Armed robber sought in area

LAPLACE – The St. John Sheriff’s Office is looking for a suspect who robbeda 68-year-old LaPlace woman at knife point on Thursday evening.

The armed robbery occurred in the parking lot of the Wal-Mart on Airline Highway in LaPlace at about 6:20 p.m.According to authorities, the victim was walking to her car after shopping at Wal-Mart. She put her groceries in her car, opened the windows to her carand returned the shopping cart to the front of the store.

When she got back into her car, a man approached her window brandishing a knife and told the lady to give him all her money.

The robber took an undisclosed amount of money and fled in an old, white Ford Escort west-bound on Airline Highway.

The suspect is described as a black male, about five-foot, nine-inches tall and wearing a beige shirt and dirty blue jeans.

“The victim is very shaken up,” said Capt. Mike Tregre of the St. JohnSheriff’s Office. “We are hoping that someone has seen the white FordEscort.”Anyone with any information on this armed robbery is urged to call Detective Sgt. Eddie Cooper at 652-6338.
