Labiche, Byrd lead all-district

RESERVE – District 11-B champion Reserve Christian placed eight players on the all-district team announced recently, including MVP Paul Labiche.

Eagles coach Timmy Byrd was also selected as the district’s Coach of the Year. Byrd led the Eagles, who won one game in 1999, to the District 11-Btitle in 2000 with a 3-1 record. Reserve Christian defeated Mt. Hermon, 11-1, in a playoff game to decide the championship.

Reserve Christian advanced to the playoffs for the first time in the Louisiana High School Athletic Association. The Eagles fell to Doyle, 11-6, ineight innings in the Class B regionals to finish at 12-10.

LaBiche, a junior, batted .375 for the Eagles. On the mound, he went 6-2 withtwo saves, an earned run average of 1.97 and 98 strikeouts in 42 innings.Also named from Reserve Christian were infielders Nathan Louque, Seth Guidry and Josh Labiche, outfielders Neal Johnson and Jason Coons, pitcher Matt Jackson and utility player Dustin Young.

Louque, a sophomore, batted a team-high .482. Johnson, a senior, was at.357 for the season. Guidry, a sophomore, batted .276. Young hit .364 in hissenior season. Jackson, a freshman, batted .300. Coons, a senior, was at.218 while Labiche, a seventh-grader, batted .277.Mt. Hermon also placed eight members on the team. Named were freshmanpitcher Steven Barber (.471 batting average), senior infielder Jason Watkins(.377), senior outfielder Mike Williams (.350), junior infielder BrandonSchilling (.391), junior outfielder Duane McGehee (.370), junior utility BrianGoins (.347), junior pitcher Ray Waskom (.325) and senior infielder JamesCaire (.229). Phoenix placed senior infielder R. Encalade on the team.
