Juniors officially sentenced to death

CONVENT – Glynn Juniors of Reserve was officially sentenced to death Thursday when a St. James Parish judge upheld the sentence imposed inAugust 1999.

The verdict of death by lethal injection was upheld by Judge Ralph Tureau, who reviewed the trial evidence and the verdict by the jury.

It is the first death sentence in St. James Parish since the mid 1940’s.Tureau said the verdict was supported by the evidence. He found that therewas no sign of resistance from Juniors’ victims, and he said he could not fathom the acclimaty to violence, the atrocious action of Juniors and the disregard for human life.

The death sentence will automatically be appealed.

Juniors was charged and convicted with the Nov. 17, 1997 murder inConvent of Albert Robinson. Ronald Williams, also charged with themurder, pleaded guilty to first-degree murder in exchange for his testimony against Juniors and a life sentence.

Both still await trial in St. John Parish for the Dec. 22, 1997 murder of JoAnn Elder at BRS Seafood in LaPlace. They also await trial for the robberyand attempted murder of the Vietnamese owner of the In-n-Out convenience store in Reserve on Jan. 10, 1998.Those cases are scheduled to be tried in October.

The jury in the St. James trial deliberated only 45 minutes before handingdown the death sentence in 1999.
