Lutcher’s Gravois crowned state Farm Bureau queen

NEW ORLEANS – Amy Lynn Gravois of Lutcher is the 2000 Louisiana Farm Bureau Queen.
Gravois, representing the Farm Bureau of East St. James Parish, was crownedJuly 15 during the final hours of the organization’s annual convention. Shewas one of 35 contestants from across the state vying for the crown and was escorted by George “Scrap” Hymel, president of East St. James Farm Bureau.Gravois, 19, is the daughter of Ozane and Darleen Gravois of Lutcher. She is a1999 graduate of Riverside Academy and now a sophomore at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, where she is majoring in Mass Communications. Sheis also a member of the LSU Color Guard.
She is the first St. James Parish resident to win the state Farm Bureau title.As Farm Bureau queen she will travel the state and country attending fairs, meetings and schools on behalf of the organization. Her role is torepresent the farmers and ranchers of the state, speaking on a variety of topics related to agriculture.
And those are topics Gravois is familiar with since her family is third- generation sugar cane farmers.
Kristen Ann Simar, 19, of Jennings was named first runner-up in the queen’s competition, representing Jeff Davis Parish. Bailey Meredith Dirmann, 17,representing St. Tammany Parish, was second runner-up.The queen’s contest is sponsored each year by the Farm Bureau’s Women’s Committee. The 78th annual meeting of the Farm Bureau wrapped up July 16.
