E.D. White defeats SCC, takes over first

LAPLACE – E.D. White took over first place in District 6-III with a 15-15-8,15-9 victory at St. Charles Catholic Tuesday afternoon. The Lady Cardinals improved to 26-7 overall and 4-0 in District 6-III. The LadyComets dropped to 13-19 overall and 2-1 in district.
Kristi Breaux had two aces and seven kills to lead E.D. White. JessicaAngelette was the Lady Cardinals’ top defender. Sarah Weber had six killsand Heather Heltz three aces to pace the Lady Comets. Amanda Helm wasthe top defender and had 11 digs. Katie Arcuri also had 11 digs while MonicaArcuri had two blocks and two assists.
St. Charles Catholic took a 1-0 lead in the first game on an ace by Heltz. E.D.White answered with a 3-0 run with Reigh Ann Ritchie serving, going ahead 5- 3 behind a kill to the back row by Sarah Picou. An ace by Katie Arcuri pulledthe Lady Comets to within one but a block by Picou got the serve back for the Lady Cardinals.
E.D. White then went on a 4-0 run with Picou serving on two kills by Breauxand one by Tania Heater. Heltz’s second ace of the game and an attack errorby the Lady Cardinals again made it a one-point game at 9-8. But E.D. Whiteclosed out the match on a 7-0 run. Breaux had two kills and Picou one duringthe run. A cross court kill by Heater made it 14-8. The Lady Cardinals gotthe game-winner a serve later on an attack error by the Lady Comets.
E.D. White raced out to a 9-0 lead in the second game. Kills by Jamie Cox andRitchie and aces by Angelette and Breaux made it 6-0. Two serves later, alift against the Lady Comets and a dink by Heater made it a nine-point game.
St. Charles Catholic scored its first two points of the game two serves lateron two E.D. White errors. A cross-court kill by Katie Arcuri into the rightcorner and a dink by her that was blocked out of bounds made it 11-5.
The Lady Comets continued to pull closer, moving to within 12-9 on a block by Weber and an ace by Heltz. But the Lady Cardinals got the serve back andscored three straight points on Lady Comets errors for the match-winner.
St. Charles Catholic bounced back from that loss to defeat Lutcher Thursdayafternoon, 16-14, 15-9. Weber had seven kills for the Lady Comets (14-19,3-1).
Lutcher (15-13, 1-3) was led by Jill Martin with nine kills and an ace. KassieWaguespack was the Lady Bulldogs’ top defender.
St. Charles Catholic plays at Hahnville today before hosting St. JamesTuesday. The Lady Comets and E.D. White match up again Wednesdayafternoon in Thibodaux.
Destrehan clinches playoff spot – RESERVE – The Destrehan Lady Cats clinched their second straight trip to the state volleyball tournament with a 15-8, 15-8 sweep at East St. John Tuesday afternoon.Destrehan improved to 19-9 overall and 3-0 in District 9-I. East St. John fellto 10-11 overall and 0-3 in district.
The Lady Cats can win their second straight District 9-I title with a win at Hahnville Tuesday.
Atina Porter led Destrehan with two aces and eight kills while providing top defense. East St. John was led by Jennie Debowes with two aces and DanielleWashington with two kills. Washington also provided top defense for the LadyWildcats.
Ridgewood takes over first with win over Riverside – METAIRIE – Ridgewood moved into sole possession of first place in District 6-IV with a 15-10, 15-1 victory at home over Riverside.
The win improved the Lady Eagles to 13-9 overall and 3-0 in district.
Riverside fell to 7-5 overall and 1-1 in district.
Riverside was led by Kelly Louque with six kills.
The teams meet again at Riverside Thursday.
