Convicted robber’s parole denied

HAHNVILLE – A New Orleans man serving a 17-year sentence for armed robbery of a Luling bank was denied early release by a unanimous vote of the Louisiana Probation and Parole Board.
Larry Singleton Jr. applied to have his sentence commuted. He was convictedof robbing the First American Bank in Luling on Dec. 2, 1994.Harry Morel Jr., district attorney for the 29th Judicial District in Hahnville,attended the parole hearing to add his opposition, along with Sheriff Greg C.
Champagne and, by telephone conference call, by some of the bank’s employees.
Morel said of the board’s decision: “I don’t think anyone could listen to the people who went through the terror of that robbery and then vote to let that man out after such a short period of incarceration. He needs to serve everyday of his sentence.”
