LAPLACE – St. John the Baptist Parish deputies are looking for two men whobeat and robbed a LaPlace woman as she was leaving Tommy B’s Bar and Restaurant on Main Street Monday night.

Deputies responded to an armed robbery call at Tommy B’s around 9:30 p.m. When they arrived they found the victim with abrasions on her hands and knees, and she was complaining of pains in her back.

Capt. Mike Tregre of the St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office said the victim wasleaving the establishment by the back way and heading to her car in the parking lot when she was approached by two black males.

The victim said one of the men wore a baseball cap, blue jeans and a green flannel shirt over a white T-shirt. She didn’t get a good look at the other manand said he was wearing a baseball cap and blue jeans.

One of the suspects had an “unknown type of gun” and demanded the woman not scream and hand over her purse.

The woman refused, and the two men proceeded to beat on her. Theyknocked her to the ground and took her purse. The robbers than jumped overthe 6-foot wooden fence that surrounded the parking lot and escaped.

The woman ran back into the bar and told everyone she had just been robbed.

Most of the bar patrons ran outside and looked for the robbers. Theymanaged to locate them and gave chase, but lost the suspects.

Returning to the bar, the patrons informed deputies of the direction where the robbers fled.

Deputies canvased the area and found discarded items from the victim’s purse. They followed the trail of the two suspects until the found thewoman’s purse lying next to the Kansas City railroad tracks at the intersection of Chickadee Street.

Amazingly, all the money was still in the purse.

Despite her injuries, the victim refused medical attention.

Tregre is asking anybody with any information on this crime to call Detective Terrill St. Martin at 652-7777. The deputy said callers can remainanonymous if they wish.
