SCC bringing drama to Fridays

LAPLACE – Friday nights may be filled with sitcoms on the networks but at St. Charles Catholic the last three weeks, dramas have taken over.The Comets have played three straight games decided in either the fourth quarter or in overtime. St. Charles Catholic won the first two, defeatingGrace King and Lawless, before falling to Newman, 14-10, Friday night.

The Comets currently stand 2-2 heading into their game at Parkview Baptist Friday. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.St. Charles Catholic led Newman, 10-0, heading into the fourth quarterbefore the Greenies turned two Comet turnovers into touchdowns. St.Charles Catholic drove to the Newman 22 late in the game but Jason Waguespack was intercepted by Newman’s Ryan Skertich.

Waguespack completed 17-of-35 passes for 227 yards and three interceptions. Those interceptions were his first of the year. RandyMadere led the team with 33 yards rushing and 89 yards receiving on three catches. The Comets gained 303 yards while holding Newman to 247 yards.But the Comets turned the ball over four times while Newman coughed it up twice.

Waguespack continues to rank among the leaders in the area in passing, completing 64-of-119 passes for 766 yards and four touchdowns.

Parkview is 3-1 after a 46-0 win over Sumner Friday night. The Eaglesgained 358 yards, 282 coming on 44 carries. Brad Booth led the way with128 yards and three touchdowns. David Simoneaux had 46 yards and atouchdown and Chase Duplessis 37 yards and a score. The defense allowed138 yards, 58 rushing and 60 passing.

Parkview has six new starters on offense from a team that went 8-4 in 1999. The only skill players back are running back Jeremy Hill and splitend Kyle Ripple.

The defense is led by junior linebacker Anthony Camp and senior defensive end John Majors.

Parkview defeated the Comets, 37-6, in 1999 behind a 164-yard effort by Josh Son. The Eagles gained 384 yards in offense while holding the Cometsto 71.

St. Charles Catholic opens District 9-3A play next Friday by hostingLutcher.
