HAMMOND – The St. John Parish Hurricanes recently defeated the Hammond Voodoo Dogs 63-0 in Hammond. As a result of the character of the game, the Hurricanes are seeking to reschedule any future games with the Voodoo Dogs with another team that is more competitive. Hurricanes General Manager Keith Balin stated that the Hurricanes were discussing the change with the league and were looking to bring in another team, possibly from Georgia. “(The Georgia team) is a lot more competitive. That’s why we’re bringing them here,” Balin said. Among the highlights of the game was the fact the Hurricanes defense held the Voodoo Dogs to minus 29 yards offense. On the offense, several players posted impressive stats. Running back Darrin Jarreau rushed five times for 68 yards and scored four touchdowns. Quarterback Corey Buie threw for 98 yards and two touchdown while completing six of 10 passes. Wide receiver Ernest Calloway had four receptions for 63 yards and a pair of touchdowns. West St. John High School alum Adair Alexander came in for one play and made the most of it, turning a quarterback draw into a 46-yard dash into the end zone. On defense, lineman Dwayne Thomas got two sacks while lineman Derrick Youngblood picked up 1 1/2 sacks and made one tackle. The Hurricanes first home game is tonight at 7 p.m. and will be played at West St. John High School.
