Edmund Barnes) RESERVE – At the end of the track season, East St. John High School coach Louis Holloway sent his senior’s times out to college track coaches all over the South. He mailed them to Southern University of New Orleans, Prairieview in Texas, Alcorn State in Mississippi and Alabama State University in Montgomery. One of the athletes whose times were in that package was Rynelle Joseph. Rynelle Joseph signed a national letter of intent this week to attend Alabama State University in the fall. Joseph, who ran personal bests of 10.6 seconds in the 100 meters and 21.7 seconds in the 200 meters, apparently was the only one surprised by the interest the times generated. Holloway was not surprised at all. “I’m very happy about (the scholarship). I expected it,” Holloway said. Joseph’s parents, Roslyn and Robert Joseph Sr., were present when Rynelle put pen to paper and agreed to attend Alabama State. “I’m very excited about it,” said Robert Joseph. “I’m really proud that he put forth the effort to get it.” “As much as he enjoys running track, I know that he’s going to hit the books and further his career, whether its computer science or track,” said Rosyln Joseph. “I’m sure he’ll go to school and study hard.” When asked why he chose Alabama State, Rynelle Joseph said he did not want to go to school too far from home, but he did want to get out of the house. “I was surprised that the big schools like Alabama State and Prairieview would call. I thought that only SUNO and Nichols would call,” he said. Joseph is scheduled to study computer science at Alabama State.
