Garyville woman dies

New Orleans, La. – New Orleans Police are investigating a traffic fatality that caused the death of a 23-year-old Garyville, Louisiana woman. The accident occurred shortly before 2 p.m. Monday.
According to investigators, officers were dispatched to U.S. Interstate 610 near Elysian Fields to handle a report of an accident. Investigators learned a 2000 Freightliner truck was traveling west on I-610 in the far right lane. Traveling in the center lane next to the truck was a 1993 Mazda MX-3. The 18-wheeler moved into the center lane and struck the Mazda causing it to spin out of control and careen into the guardrail. The rear of the Mazda struck the guardrail and forced the driver, and only occupant, to be ejected out of the vehicle from the rear windshield onto the ground below. A seat belt was apparently not used.
The female driver of the Mazda was taken to Charity Hospital where she later died.
Fatality Investigators are reconstructing the scene in an attempt to determine the drivers exact course of action. No charges have been filed at this time.
