BERGENTHAL

HARAHAN – Ann Robertson Bergenthal, 70, a native of Hammond, former resident of New Sarpy and resident of Harahan, died Sept. 8. She was the wife of Clemons Bergenthal Sr. and mother of Gregory, Geoffrey and Alton Spears Jr., Marlee, Kyle and Clemons Bergenthal Jr.

She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Memorial services are today at noon at Jefferson Congregation of Jehovah’s Witness Hall, Harahan.

JOHNSON

BATON ROUGE – James Louis “House” Johnson, 73, a native and resident of Baton Rouge, died Sept. 9. He was the husband of Mary F. Johnson and father of Fredia, Eddie, Eric, Gregory and Forest Johnson.

He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was a teacher for 18 years at Fifth Ward High School, three years at Reserve Junior High School, six years at Leon Godchaux High School and three years at Leon Godchaux Junior High School and retired in 1981.

Services were Sept. 13 at Magnolia Baptist Church, Baton Rouge, with interment at Greater Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Zachary.

MADERE

LAPLACE – Gerdie Clement Madere, 83, a native and resident of LaPlace, died Sept. 10. She was the wife of the late Davant Madere Sr., and mother of Patty Watson, Arlene Entremont, Yvonne Rongey, Betty, Warren, Tony and Clyde Madere Sr.

She was the sister of Pearl Vilemont, and the late Edeze Edler and Earl Clement.

She is also survived by 22 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren.

Services were Sept. 13 at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, LaPlace, with interment at St. John Memorial Gardens, LaPlace.

QUARTARARO

METAIRIE – Philip Quartararo, 88, a native of Lutcher and resident of Metairie for 42 years, died Sept. 12. He was the husband of Angelina Serio Quartararo, father of Philip Quartararo Jr. and stepfather of Bernadine, Louis and Vincent Caruso.

He was the brother of Sarah Amato, chetta Hitt and Josie Lanzetta.

He is also survived by four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

He was a lineman at Moisant Field.

Services were Sept. 13 in the chapel of Tharp-Sontheimer-Tharp Funeral Home, Metairie, with interment at Garden of Memories.
