NEW ORLEANS – Despite moving their scheduled home game to their opponent’s New Orleans field, the Louisiana Hurricanes crushed the New Orleans Bayou Raiders 42-0 Saturday.

A soggy field at Joe Keller Stadium forced the Hurricanes minor league football team to first cancel their game versus the Bayou Raiders, then move the game to Easton Park.

The Hurricanes’ next game will be Saturday at the Central Arkansas Rhinos, while the next home game will be July 20 at Joe Keller Stadium versus the Panhandle Tigers.

Saturday’s win pushes the Hurricanes to a 2-1 record, while the Raiders slip to 0-2. Offensively the Hurricanes covered 147 yards, but the story of the day came from the team’s defense, accounting for two touchdowns, a safety and holding the Raiders to a total 62 yards. The Raiders passed for 67 yards on nine completions, but found bad luck moving on the ground with a negative five yards for rushing. The dismal offense allowed the Raiders to gain only three first downs, while the Hurricanes broke through the line seven times.

The Hurricanes fumbled the ball three times, while the Raiders fumbled twice, although each team only lost possession once.

Cornell Johnson started off the scoring rampage, making the first points of the evening via a 65-yard punt return for a touchdown.

David Johnson caught a 31-yard pass from Shannon Petty for the next touchdown, followed by another when Anthony Garrison recovered a fumble for a touchdown.

Darian Chestnut followed suit, recovering a punt in the endzone. Curtiss Reid caught a 16-yard pass for a touchdown, followed by a Corey Bouie run for the PAT.

Garrison brought in a one-yard pass for a touchdown, before the last two points were placed on the board from a tackle in the endzone for a safety.
