S.C.C. Comets slip past Lutcher in double overtime, 74-71

LUTCHER – After periods of control stemming from both sides of the court, the St. Charles Catholic Comets squeezed a win past the Lutcher Bulldogs in two overtimes, 74-71, Friday.

The Bulldogs welcomed the Comets to their part of town with fast-paced first quarter and a 23-15 lead.

The Comets began to find their rhythm in the following eight minutes. They held back the Bulldogs drive, while scoring an equal 17 points to continue trailing by eight.

The third quarter was a different scenario altogether. The Comets opened the second half stronger than the Bulldogs had 16 minutes prior and limited Lutcher to only two points.

St. Charles’ overtook the lead by sinking 18 points, to enter the fourth quarter with the tables turned and their own eight-point lead.

With minutes ticking down, the Bulldogs scrambled to outscore the Comets 2-1 and eventually pushed the game into overtime with the score tied at 58. The first overtime also resulted in a tie, with both teams dropping in seven points each. The Comets finally ended the standoff, taking a three-point lead to end the second overtime and the game, 74-71.

Daress Nicholas led the Comets’ scoring with 22 final points, while teammates Aaron Johnson had 13 and Matt Boucvalt put up 11 points.
