OBITUARIES

BACON

NORCO – Evelyn Mae Burke Bacon died Aug. 6. She was the wife of the late Robert Lee Bacon, and mother of Cynthia McNabb, Carol Whiting, Ella Nicholas, Tyna, Robert, David, Thomas Bacon, and the late Debra Frank.

She is also survived by three sisters and preceded in death by two brothers.

She is also survived by 27 grandchildren and numerous great- and great-great-grandchildren.

Private memorial services are planned.

BERTHELOT

RESERVE – Felix “Prof” Floreston Berthelot, 92, a native of Port Allen and resident of Reserv for 55 years, died Aug. 9. He was the husband of 57 years of Ruby Premeaux Berthelot and father of Charlott Garst, Aimee Place and Michael Berthelot.

He was also the son of the late Drauzin and Noelie Becnel Berthelot, and brother of Josephine Roussel, Marie Perret, Cecile, Camille, Elmore and Drauzin Berthelot.

He is also survived by six grandchildren.

He was a former IRS Special Agent and an employee of Shell Oil, Norco. He taught in the St. John Parish public school system for nearly 30 years, retiring in 1977, having taught at Edgard High School and Leon Godchaux High School. He served as Louisiana Teachers Association president and later as federal title programs supervisor.

He was a Knights of Columbus member for 66 years and the first president of the Leon Godchaux High Quarterback Club.

Services were Aug. 12 at St. Peter Catholic Church, Reserve, with interment at the church cemetery.

CATALANO

DESTREHAN – Anthony Joseph “Tony” Catalano Sr., 74, a native of Kenner and resident of Killian, died Aug. 7. He was the husband of Gloria Poche Catalano and father of Janet Gallard of Metairie, Anthony Jr. of Norco and Michael Catalano of Destrehan. He was preceded in death by an infant son.

He was also the son of the late Anthony and Victoria Perrone Catalano, and brother of Joyce Johannsen, Frank and Raymond Catalano, and the late Conchetta Ackerman and Josephine Kreeger.

He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services were Aug. 8 at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, Destrehan, with interment at the church mausoleum.

CHAMPAGNE

NORCO – Tommy Paul Champagne, 39, a native of New Orleans and resident of Norco for many years, died Aug. 9. He was the husband of Penny Heurtin Champagne and father of Justine, Bridget and Taylor Champagne.

He was also the son of Kenneth “Rookie” Sr. and Elma Champagne and brother of Mickey and Kenny Champagne.

He was a chemical operator.

Services were Aug. 12 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, Norco, with interment at St. Charles Borromeo Mausoleum, Destrehan.

DAVID

METAIRIE – John M. David, 87, a native of Broussard, past resident of Baton Rouge and Pass Christian, Miss., and resident of LaPlace, died Aug. 8. He was the husband of Dorothy Federico Davis and father of Jerelyn Anthony and Philip David Sr.

He is also survived by five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

He was a retired machinist.

Services were Aug. 11 in the chapel of Lamana-Panno-Fallo Funeral Home, Metairie, with interment at Metairie Cemetery.

DUFRENE

BAYOU GAUCHE -Claude Joseph Dufrene, 71, a native and resident of Bayou Gauche, died Aug. 7. He was the husband of Dora Dufrene and father of Myra Soule, Molly Badeaux, Myrna Bertolet and Bennett Dufrene.

He was also the brother of Joyce Plaisance, Vera Deville, Reva McPhail, Rebecca Badeaux, Ronald and Donald Dufrene.

He is also survived by nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Services were Aug. 10 at Community Assembly of God Church, Bayou Gauche, with interment at Sunset Cemetery, Bayou Gauche.

FARACE

LAPLACE – Mary Ann Farace, 62, a native of St. James and resident of LaPlace for 35 years, died Aug. 7. She was the sister of Helena Benoit, Frances Oubre, Josephine Baker and Leo Farace.

Services were Aug. 10 in the chapel of Millet-Guidry Funeral Home, LaPlace, with private interment.

GOSSETT

KENNER – Robert Gossett, 60, a native of Opelika, Ala., and resident of St. Rose for 13 years, died Aug. 9. He was the husband of Peggy Gossett, father of Bobbie Sandra, Robin and Travis Gossett, and the late B.J. Gossett, and stepfather of Cristy Hollingsworth and Becky Malinosky.

He was also the son of the late Reese and Beatrice Cook Gossett. He is also preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.

He is also survived by eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

He was a tugboat captain for Dann Ocean Towing.

Services were Aug. 12 in the chapel of Muhleisen & Son Funeral Home, Kenner.

JAUBERT

RESERVE – Thelma Englade Jaubert, 89, a native of New Orleans and long-time resident of Reserve, died Aug. 7. She was the wife of the late Marcel Jaubert, and mother of Michael Jaubert Jr.

She was also the daughter of the late Rene and Genevieve St. Amant Englade, and sister of Nathan and Norman Englade.

She is also survived by four grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was a retired teacher with 42 years of service to St. John Parish schools, a member of Catholic Daughters of America for more than 50 years and member of the Ladies Altar Society for St. Peter Catholic Church.

Services were Aug. 11 at St. Peter Catholic Church, Reserve, with interment at the church cemetery.

MORRIS

RESERVE – Avis Evette Anderson Morris, 40, a native of Garyville and resident of LaPlace, died Aug. 2. She was the wife of Leonard Morris Jr and mother of valencia Jackson and Jamal Morris and stepmother of Shenika Johnson Mario and Terrence Johnson.

She was also the daughter of the Rev. Wesley Anderson Sr., and the late Mary Anderson, and sister of Mary Ann Cambre, Joyce Washington, the Rev. Wesley Jr. and Russell Anderson.

She is also survived by one step-grandchild.

She was a dialysis technician at Kenner Regional Medical Center.

Services were Aug. 9 at Beechgrove Baptist Church, Reserve, with interment at Zion Travelers Cemetery, Lions.

NAVARRE

THIBODAUX – Gladys Ledet Navarre, 96, a native of Thibodaux and resident of Gramercy, died Aug. 9. She was the wife of the late Edmond Navarre, and mother of Barbara Hebert and Edmonia Michie.

She was also the daughter of the late Ozeme and Louise Dias Ledet, and sister of Celine Musgrove, and the late Annette Waguespack, Beatrice Pfeiffer, Louisiana Bassett, Florence Constant, Alcide and Raoul Ledeet.

She is also survived by seven grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was a retired teacher at Mt. Carmel Academy and St. Joseph Elementary School.

Services were Aug. 12 at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, Thibodaux, with interment at the church cemetery.

THOMPSON

NEW SARPY – Versell “Horace Dop” Thompson Jr., 58, a native and resident of Norco, died Aug. 2. He was the father of Debra Rochelle, Diondra Burks and Versell Thompson.

He was also the son of the late Versell Sr. and Rosalie Sampson Thompson, and brother of Lois Parquet, Ernestine Roberts, Doris Antoine, Sherline Morton, Linda Esko, Bernadine Lecour, Louis, Lawrence and Wynell Thompson.

He is also survived by five grandchildren.

He was a 1963 graduate of Bethune High School in Norco and a retired laborer.

Services were Aug. 9 at St. Matthew Baptist Church, New Sarpy, with interment at Montz Memorial Park, Montz.

WATKINS

LUTCHER – Justine “Mama Jose” Armont Watkins, 67, a native and resident of Lutcher, died Aug. 7. She was the wife of the late Jessie Watkins Jr., and mother of Sandra Joseph-Clark, Ursula Joseph and Anthony Joseph, and stepmother of Abraham Watkins.

She was also the daughter of the late Whelmon and Augustine Kennard Armont, and sister of Edna Clayton, Naomi Morris, Donna Foley, Carrie, Roosevelt, Kirby Sr. and Clarence Armont Sr.

She is also survived by seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

She was a retired seamstress at Deansgate Sewing Factory.

Services were Aug. 12 at King Solomon Baptist Church, Lutcher, with interment at St. Joseph Cemetery, Paulian.

ZERINGUE

ST. JAMES – Gertrude Haydel Zeringue, 78, a native and resident of St. James, died Aug. 5. She was the wife of 57 years of Stanley Zeringue and mother of Brenda Allday, Claire LeBlanc, Mable Oubre, Peggy Trudeau, Connie Granier, Claudia Mistretta, Faye Ordoyne, Donald and Glenn Zeringue.

She was also the daughter of the late Premilas and Claudia Landry Haydel, and sister of Mathilda Bourgeois, Adelaide Signorelli, Bertha Grangnard, Marilyn Rowan, Jeanette Carter, Joseph, Claude and Walter Haydel, and the late Beverly Haydel.

She is also survived by 22 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by one grandchild and one great-grandchild.

Services were Aug. 7 at St. James Catholic Church, St. James, with interment at the church mausoleum.
