St. John Sugar Queen Pageant

LAPLACE – Jenny Edwards, a resident of LaPlace, was recently crowned as the LV St. John Sugar Queen.
Edwards, 20, who is the daughter of Rick and Kelly Edwards, is proud of her maternal family’s heritage of being involved with the sugar industry in Ibervile Parish for over a century.
Edwards, a graduate of Ursuline Academy, is a senior at Loyola, where she is majoring in English literature. After graduation, this dean’s list student plans to attend graduate school and become a professor of medieval literature.
In addition to being an honor student, she is a member of the English Honor Society and Gamma Phi Beta sorority. Previously, she recieved numerous awards as a member of the St. John the Baptist Parish 4-H Program. She was also a member of the LaPlace Area Recreational Organization’s (LAOYO) softball and swim teams where she was elected to reign as the Krewe of Allovus’ Carnival Queen and maid.
Edwards was sponsored in the pageant by William O’Regan and Caire and Graugnard Sgar Farm. She will now represent her parish in the annual Louisiana Sugar Queen Pageant, which will be held next month in New Iberia.
