Organizers of the Garyville Centennial celebration are asking long-time residents, especially present and former residents of Garyville, to sort through the family photo albums and share them with your neighbors at an upcoming photo fair, set in February.

This is but one small segment of the centennial observance, aimed to recall the days when Garyville was the hottest spot between New Orleans and Baton Rouge – a boom town of activity and a hub of commercial enterprise.

What’s more, organizers say, Garyville still contributes their best and brightest as leaders and achievers in many fields. The Centennial is aimed to celebrate all those things.

Other activities include plantation tours, a centennial queen pageant, a family reunion festival and a paddlewheel trip. A total of $1.5 million in state funds are going toward restoration of the Garyville Museum, and the future is looking up.
