From the Heart – Ronny Keller Michel

If you’ve read my Dad’s column, Get High on Life, in the first section of this paper, you know of the tragic accident that affected many people last week. The moment I heard of Amie Englade’s death, grief overshadowed everything else in my life, including the gratefulness I felt over the survival of my niece, Kerri Serven.

Amie was no stranger to our home. In fact, I don’t think that Amie was a stranger anywhere she went. She had a bubbly personality, a warm smile, and a laugh that filled the room.

While thinking of her death, I was comforted by Charles Swindoll’s reference to 1 Thessalonians 4:13, “Death brings sorrow. Sorrow brings tears. Tears are part of the grieving process. God never tells us, ‘Don’t cry. Don’t grieve.’ He says we are not to grieve as those who have no hope.”

I have hope. I know that I will see Amie again in Heaven, and in the meantime, I know that the Holy Spirit will comfort those who mourn her death.

And I am so grateful for the life of my niece. Kerri’s body will heal, and I know that God will also heal the broken pieces of her heart and cause it to beat with a renewed love and trust in Him.
