RESERVE – The weather was about as bad as the Riverside Academy bats in the final game of the Riverside Tournament. St. Charles Catholic starting pitcher Jeremy Catoire gave up only four hits, while striking out nine in a 10-1 rout of Riverside. The game was called after five innings because of inclimate weather.

The third, fourth and fifth innings were the most productive for the Comets, who went 3-0 in the tournament.

With two outs in the bottom of the third inning, Adam Millet and catcher Jeremy Poche reached base safely. Millet was hit by a pitch and advanced to second on a while pitch. Poche then walked and scored on a three-run home run over the right-field fence off the bat of third baseman Jesse Martin.

Through the first three innings, Catoire kept Riverside hitters quiet. He only allowed two base runners and struck out five. Jordan Poirrier and Lee Haydel were the lone two Riverside hitters to reach base in those innings. In addition, Catoire did not allow a base runner past second base.

Two more runs in the top of the fourth gave the Comets a commanding 5-0 lead. Catoire was hit by a pitch and advanced to third on a single by lead-off hitter Casey Robottom. A throwing error by Riverside allowed Catoire and Robottom to score. However, the inning ended when Adam Millet hit into a double play.

In the bottom of the fourth, it appeared the Rebels would score their first run. AJ Delaneuville reached base on a walk and advanced to second on an error and to third on a fielders choice. However, after Jordan Remondet struck out Josh Labiche was caught stealing, which ended the inning.

The Comets got their most productive inning in the top of the fifth. They did not get a lot of hits, just were the benefit of many Rebel walks.

The first four Comets hitters reached base safely. In addition, three of the four hitters scored. After Martin and Matt Heltz got on base, designated hitter James Callahan got up and nailed a single, scoring Martin and Heltz.

Two more walks to St. Charles Catholic, Matt Sutton and Billy Poche respectively, Millet nailed a single that scored Callahan and Sutton.

Riverside relief pitcher Billy Terrio got Poche to fly out and end the inning.

The Rebels scored their only run in the bottom of the fifth. With one out, Wes Hotard singled and moved to third on a double from catcher Cavin Richmond. A single by Haydel allowed Hotard to score from third.

Both RA and SCC begin district at the end of the month.
