Parish President Nickie Monica submitted first the name of Virgil Rayneri for his public works director. When that was rejected, Monica withdrew the rest of his list from consideration.

He said afterward he planned to meet with those people “to determine our course of action.”

Those to be submitted for council approval also included Ralph Bean for Utilities Director, Julia Remondet for Economic Development Director, Adrienne Labat for Planning and Zoning Director, Stacey Cader for Human Resources Director, Paul Oncale for Public Safety Director,

Brenda Labat for Purchasing Director, Errol Manuel for Recreation Director and Raynette Lennix for Health and Human Resources Director.

“They’re all very qualified and certified in their fields,” Monica said of his nominees. “My cabinet is very diverse.”

For the time being, though, unless council chairman Joel McTopy or a majority of the parish council calls for a special meeting, Monica will direct all departments himself, at least until the next regular meeting on Jan. 27.

Monica continued, “I can assure the public that all functions of government will proceed.”
