HAHNVILLE – St. Charles Parish Assessor Clyde “Rock” Gisclair took his ninth oath of office Wednesday from 29th Judicial District Judge Robert Chaisson, along with his chief deputy assessor and other deputy assessors in a brief ceremony.
Gisclair first became assessor, succeeding Julius “Duck” Sellers Jr., who had just been elected sheriff. Gisclair began his first term in July 1972.
Gisclair is now the longest-serving office holder in St. Charles Parish history.
“This office belongs to the people of St. Charles Parish,” he said after taking his oath. “I’m only the custodian.”
He was joined at the ceremony by Parish President Albert Laque and Clerk of Court Charles Oubre Jr.
Gisclair is the 15th assessor in parish history. Previously, the record-holder was Ralph Dubroca, who served from June 1916 to May 1939.
