LAPLACE – Visitors to the St. John Parish Central Library received a special holiday treat on Tuesday.

The Magnolia String Quartet from New Orleans presented a one-hour musical program, covering all of the traditional Christmas songs, and then some.

Selections from The Nutcracker, Vivaldi’s Four Seasons, along with Hanukkah and Christmas songs were the highlights of the evening.

Also during the program, the presenters discussed the relation of the string quartet as an ideal instrumental version of a four-part choir. They demonstrated the various octaves the instruments can obtain.

About 35 adults and children were in attendance to hear the show, which is part of the Young Audiences program.

Members of the groups are Bruce Owen, viola; Judith Armistead, violin; Treesa Gold, violin; and Kent Jensen, cello. They are all members of the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra
