NORCO – State Rep. Gary Smith of Norco has been selected to join eight other delegates to the Republic of Turkey during a two-week political study program.

Sponsored by the American Council of Young Political Leaders, a bipartisan, non-profit organization, the conference will take place Nov. 30-Dec. 10.

The delegation will first have a day of briefings in Washington, DC, and upon arrival in Turkey, the delegation will be briefed by U.S. Embassy officials in Ankara. The two-week program will provide the delegates opportunities to travel the countryside and meet with leaders, business communities and civic groups.

While there, the ACYPL delegation will meet with the Ari Movement, a grass-roots think tank dedicated to reforming Turkey’s political system.

Established in 1966, ACYPL has participated in similar exchange programs with more than 90 nations.

Delegates are chosen from a competitive, bipartisan field of candidates who are between the ages of 25 and 40 and have exhibited strong leadership during their public service careers.
