Elfer, Shepard off to good start for Riverside Lady Rebs

RESERVE – The Pontchatoula Tournament proved to be a good place for the Riverside Lady Rebels to notch their first victory of the young basketball season.
Riverside split its two games in the tournament, losing to Independence, 47-13, but then coming back to beat Springfield, 41-32.
In the victory over Springfield, Riverside used a strong run in the middle quarters to take command of the game.
After leading 8-4 in the first quarter, the Lady Rebels outscored the Bulldogs, 23-15, in the second and third periods to take control of the win.
Jena Elfer had a super all-around game with 15 points and 12 rebounds, while Amber Shepard added 12 points. Kayla Perret chipped in with five points and four steals.
Against Independence, Shepard scored six points and Erica Oubre added five.
