Get High on Life-Harold Keller
Recently, I visited a church, and the sermon was on love. The pastor shared, as all Christians know, that we should love God and love our neighbor as our self.
The Bible says that love is kind, is patient, and does not react by getting even when we are offended.
The pastor then told the story of a truck driver who stopped at an all-night diner to get refreshed and something to eat. He ordered a hamburger, fries and a soft drink. As he was seated at a table to relax and enjoy his meal, three rough-looking bikers came into the diner. They walked to the trucker’s table, apparently wanting to start trouble.
One biker grabbed his hamburger and took a big bite. One of the others took a handful of fries and started eating them, while the third one took his drink.
Without saying a word, the trucker stood up, excused himself, went to the cashier and paid his bill. Then he walked out of the diner. (Sounds like the way a Christian should act.)
The cashier immediately noticed that the trucker forgot to take his change, which was a large amount. She ran out of the diner to stop him, but he had already driven off in his 18-wheeler.
When she returned to the diner, the bikers were laughing and said to the waitress, “He’s not much of a man!” “I don’t know about that,” she responded, “but he certainly isn’t much of a truck driver. He just ran over three motorcycles.”
I don’t know about you, but I can relate more to the trucker’s reaction to the bikers after he left the diner. Getting even might feel good for a little while, but it’s not the Christian way to witness to a lost and troubled world.
