What does it say about your team when you try not to score and still when by almost 50?
It says your team is pretty talented.
In one of the more lopsided girls basketball games that you will ever see, the East St. John Wildcats completed their sweep of Lafourche parish with a 64-15 dominating victory over Central Lafourche Friday night.
Randi Donald led the Lady Wildcats with a game-high 25 points and single-handily outscored Central Lafourche.
With the win, East St. John improved to 18-14 on the season and 7-3 in district play.
East St. John head coach Troy Giordano said his team played well and did not try to run up the score.
“It was 41-12 at the half,” Giordano said.
“That was a 29 point lead. The second half our bench played the entire game and we sat in a zone defense. We didn’t press or do anything. We let them shoot. They just could not score.
“To build the lead in the first half we started off with a half-court trap, created a whole bunch of turnovers and built our lead up. Our speed up and down the court was just too much for them to handle.”
With the game never truly in doubt, Giordano said he used the game to gain other players experience and provide valuable rest for his starters.
“We worked on a lot of stuff,” Giordano said. “We made our kids make so many passes before they could shoot. We made them run the offense. There were no fast breaks, we just didn’t want to do that. We wanted to work on executing our offense. We walked it up every time and just worked on our execution. In a game like that it is a good time to work on that and use the game atmosphere to practice. You don’t get that a lot.
“We were also allowed to rest people and that was key, especially with the schedule that we have coming up. This Friday we go to Thibodeaux, then we have Hahnville, Bourgeois, Destrehan, Ellender. We have five killer games in a row and we are going to need fresh legs down the stretch here if we want to make a run and try to get into the playoffs.”
