It was one of those games that the final score didn’t reflect how not close the game was.
Behind three scorers in double-figures, led by Ryan Stipe who finished the game with 14 points, East St. John boys team pick up another win in district play with a 56-53 defeat of Central Lafourche on Friday night.
In addition to Stipe’s 14 points, Ricardo Porter had 11 points and Ryan Perrilloux added 11 in the victory.
With the win, ESJ remains one of the hottest teams in the district with a 22-7 overall record and 7-2 record in district play.
ESJ head coach Charles Julian was pleased with his team’s performance.
“Central gave us a really tough game,” Julian said. “They pushed the ball inside and really rebounded it well. It was a really hard fought game that they wanted to win as well. We just played better and were able to come away with the victory.
“It was a back-and-forth game early, but we took control towards the end of the game. We had led and they started fouling with about three minutes left to cut into our lead.”
